I met with several of the other community leaders that are allies with Bear Country today. We discussed what to do about Central. For the most part the meeting was civil. It got loud a couple times. Everyone had their own idea how to get rid of our problem but we all agreed that Central needs to be pushed out of the area. It was brought up in the meeting that several boys have suspiciously disappeared from the surrounding area. Word on the street is that Central has taken the boys and is using them in warm up rounds of the cage fights.
After the meeting , I went to see Tony to let him know what I had discovered at the meeting. At first, Tony didn’t want to talk to me. He actually thru a wrench in my direction. It missed me by a long shot. I made him listen. I told him about the missing boys and how The Runt might be at the Central Campus. I also told Tony about the plan to get someone inside Central as a spy.
Today was fresh produce day at the market. I shopped and haggled as Matt and Jonas kept guard over our red wagon and protected our food from the gutter rats.
The morning was going well until I stopped to look at a basket of pears. Several Central’s Goons storm into the Market. In a matter of seconds, the orderly crowd turns crazy. Taking advantage of the distraction caused by Central, I drop several pears into my pockets and skipped the haggling. Before I can retreat to safety with the boys, a Dirt Bike Knight knocks me off my feet. Jonas saves me from being trampled. Unfortunately, I lose the free pears.
As the Davis brothers attempt to maneuver us to safety, A sneaky gutter-rat reaches into our wagon. He steals one of our cucumbers. Jonas grabs the little thief by the scruff of his collar and retrieves our vegetable.
In the beginning, after the world threw itself into chaos, survival was a struggle. Death was everywhere. Attempting to survive alone often meant an early death. The smart ones joined gangs and made alliances.
My friends and I moved into this school. We are a family even though sometimes we are loud, annoying and dysfunctional. Yay, for dysfunction.
It has been an awful day. Tony is avoiding me. He won’t look at me. He won’t talk to me. He won’t enter a room that I am in. I wish I knew what to say. I have tried to apologize. I have never seen him this angry with anyone before. I don’t know what to do. This cold shoulder he is giving me is breaking my heart. I keep hoping the Runt will walk thru the front doors but I know that isn’t going to happen. He has probably been killed or captured by a rival gang. This also makes me sad.
